Postnatal

Postpartum Care for our birth clients:
Immediate postpartum will be conducted at the center, following the birth.

This includes:
Monitoring of vitals of mother and baby
Ensuring healthy transition to life outside the womb for the baby
Checking and repairing/suturing any damage to the mother’s perineum
Basic newborn exam including weights and measurements
Ensure breastfeeding has been established

Clients usually leave the center within 8 hours after the birth, with full instructions of when to call, what to be aware of, and feeding timing for the baby.
After this discharge, we have six post partum visits for our clients. Our postpartum midwife who comes to your home to follow up, support, monitor, assess and offer solutions for any issues that may arise.
Our home visit schedule usually follows and includes: All aspects of postpartum care including: Breastfeeding, Newborn Care, Adjustments, Newborn Sleep, Infant Massage, Postpartum Emotions, Processing Birth, and Attachment Parenting

Home Visit schedule:
Within 24 hours of the birth
Second day if required due to breastfeeding complications or any other reason
Third day to evaluate: milk flow, mother’s mood, bonding, babies weight, jaundice assessment and how the new family is settling in together
Following visits throughout the week are on an ‘as needed’ basis, usually a total of 4-5 visits or given in the first week
During the second week postpartum mother and baby are visited in the home 2 times or more depending on the need

Postpartum Care at the Centre:
From the third week until the sixth week families are invited to continue once weekly care at the center to assess the baby’s weight and also address and all other concerns and joys.

New Mum?
Mothers who have not had a birth at Birthvillage can also avail our postnatal services. We offer complete holistic postpartum care in your home, and in the center. Midwifery care considers the postnatal period as a natural continuation of the pregnancy, and birth stages – and as such the same fundamental principles of woman-centric care are followed. The visits will be unhurried as this is often the time when support is crucial to the ongoing relationship between you, your baby and the rest of your family. Our postpartum team can support in all aspects of postnatal requirements – including Breastfeeding, Newborn Care, Adjustments, Newborn Sleep, Infant Massage, Postpartum Emotions, Processing Birth, and Attachment Parenting.
