My journey with BV started through a Skype call with a beautiful bold voice, one of our primary midwives whom my husband and I spoke to. I was 34 weeks carrying then. After our Skype call, (interestingly we did the Skype with all three if us based in three different locations )I realised that I knew nothing about the baby in my womb, how I wanted my pregnancy period and what my baby wanted from me. A week later I made my visit to BV with my in laws. But I was still confused like how am I gonna birth at BV since our hometown was a few hours drive from BV. My husband was extremely adamant that I should birth at BV. So he came down to India from the United States early enough to take me to BV and make me attend all the classes and workout sessions. We stayed in fort Kochi to relax and spend our last days before the addition of the new member .We attended the Lamaze class which Priyanka and Donna took for us. Those classes were so informative that it gave us mental preparation for labour. I also attended the juicy wiggy workout session which prepared me physically for labour. Rest of the days we spent at Fort Kochi and Lulu Mall watching movies, having nice colourful salads and soups and also visiting many places in Ernakulam. It was more of a holiday for us until my contractions started at around 3am one fine morning. By 6am my mucus plug also came out…Immediately I texted Priyanka with a pic of it. Since the pic wasn’t that clear, I was asked to wait until contractions got stronger. I couldn’t rest anymore as the contractions was every 5 minutes. So my hubby and I went for a movie at Lulu Mall. The movie was interesting and so it kept me distracted.I have to mention I finished a Tamil blockbuster and started Dunkirk( which unfortunately I had to leave half way as my contractions timing increased from 30 to 45sec in 5mins and we’re getting more intense So I texted My midwife and told her that I am coming to Birthvillage just for a check up to see if its time for labour.. So once I reached there, I was checked to be 8cm. And that was a surprise to me as I was expecting to sent back home. Anyways, I changed and labour started at 4:45pm. I hadn’t slept properly for two days before labour, that was a minus mark for me. More than half of the time during labour, I was tired and sleepy and I felt so cold that I had both fan and AC switched off and that made my husband and the midwives sweat even more with me.I got into the pool for relief. It was so relaxing there that I started sleeping inside pool. It was then that my midwives started motivating me physically and emotionally .She told me that’s it’s time to buck up that we needed more movement .So I got out of pool and started moving in every position that made me comfortable and relaxed. At this point I still did not feel the urge to push. But My midwives gave me the feeling that only I can do this for me and nobody in the world is gonna do this for me. My husband, inspite of all the tiredness he had with no food, kept all dizziness away just to help me out . My pain was intense but duration was short. So my midwives asked me to climb two steps at a time .That worked well for me. My midwives were so supportive and motivated me so much that it was their words along with my husbands strength and God’s grace that gave me an urge to push and bring my baby to this world. And the baby was born after 6 hours of active labour.(I am not putting down my early phase as I took it my stride and totally enjoyed the contractions my way) I didn’t have words to express my joy when I first saw the tiny eyes stare at me. I am very grateful to my midwives for all the effort they put before, during and after my baby was born. One thing I am very sure is that if I was in the hospital, the doctors would have gone for a C section as I was that sleepy during labour. My experience in birthing my baby was so amazing that I would love to have a another baby just to come back to BV. ❤️ Bv notes We are deeply impressed with this late to care mamma who identified quickly what her weak spots were and worked hard on her body and mind for the birth Not one to worry about going post dates calmness and confidence were key strengths Her husband was a very loving foil who put aside his time , travel and work at the very nth hour giving his wife and baby the first priority on his diary . Congratulations again .we will never forget all your Laboring positions for a longtime to come . N.B we love the fact that birth is led by community as this couple found their way to us through a photographer couple Jino and Midhu who captured their wedding stills . Lots of love to all ❤️
